The Canisteo Village Police Department in Canisteo, NY, is an eight-man department comprised of a School Resource Officer, two full-time officers, three to five part-time officers, and three patrol vehicles. The Chief of Police is Kyle C. Amidon.

Born and raised in Canisteo, New York, graduated in 2006 from the Canisteo-Greenwood Central School District. In 2008 he received an Associates Degree from Alfred State College in Liberal Arts-Social Sciences. He then pursued his education at Daemen College in Buffalo for Childhood/Special Education. KY. accepted a position with the Hornell City Police Department prior to finishing his Bachelors Degree in April of 2010. In 2011 he graduated from the Rural Police Training Academy in Batavia, NY and became a New York State certified Police Officer. In April of 2013 he left the Hornell City Police Department and took over the Canisteo Village Police Department and was promoted to Sergeant in May of 2015. He currently resides in the City of Hornell with his family. KY. is a New York State Certified General Topics Instructor, along with a Defensive Tactics Instructor and Field Training Officer. He currently teaches Defensive Tactics at the Southern Tier Law Enforcement Academy in Corning, NY. KY. has additional certifications in RADAR/LIDAR, Breath Test Operator, Field Sobriety Testing, ASP Tactical Baton, Taser, OC Spray, CPR/AED, First Responder, Bicycle Patrol, Multiple Active Shooter Response Trainings, Tactical Emergency Casualty Care, Opioid Overdose and Intranasal Naloxone Training, and other general topics. KY. is on the board of the Steuben County Chiefs of Police Association and the Southern Tier Law Enforcement Police Academy In Corning, NY. Sergeant and K-9 Handler Started working for CPD in January 2014 Born and raised in Greenwood, NY, Ahearn graduated from Canisteo-Greenwood Central School in 2010. He studied Criminal Justice at Corning Community College and Alfred State College. He graduated from the Southern Tier Law Enforcement Academy, Session 30 in 2015 where he received the Top Gun Award. Police Certificates: Basic Law Enforcement with certifications that apply to New York State Standards. Field Training Officer since 2015. ALERRT Active Shooter Training Course I and 2, Intranasal Naloxone Training, General Topics Instructor for Police since 2015. Glock Armorer Certified. Seeking to become a firearms instructor and colt armorer certified. ALERRT Level 1 Instructor and ERASE Instructor. Patrolman Started working for CPD in June 2014 Born in Rochester and Raised in Hornell, Clair graduated from Hornell High school in 2001. He studied Veterinary Technology at Alfred State College and studied Criminal Justice at Monroe Community College. He graduated as class captain from the Rural Police Training Academy Class 26 in 2015. He received 3rd place overall Academy Achievement Award. He is currently employed as a patrolman full-time for the City of Corning and part-time for the Village of Canisteo. Police Certificates: Basic Law Enforcement with certifications that apply to New York State Standards, ASO Tactical Baton, Taser Conducted Electrical Weapon, Narcotics Identification - NIK, Intranasal Naloxone, CPR and AED Certified.

Patrolman Started working for the Canisteo Police Department in January, 2016. He was born and raised in Hartsville and graduated from Canisteo-Greenwood Central School in 2010. He studied Criminal Justice at Corning Community College before attending Session 32 of the Southern Tier Law Enforcement Academy in 2016. Law Enforcement with certificates what apply to New York State Standards. Graduated Academy session 32, Top Firearms Award, Narcan certified, Breath Test Operator, Radar/LIDAR, Taser, ASP Baton, First Responder, CPR/AED, also works at the Alfred and North Hornell Police Departments.
Patrolman R. Margeson – Badge 10
Patrolman Started working for CPD in April 2015 Margeson started at the Hornell PoliceDepartment in August of 1990. Previous to this he worked at the Alfred Police Department for eight years. Bob received a B.A. from the University of Southern Florida in 1981. His training includes Officer Survival, Breath Test Operator, Deadly Physical Force and Crime Scene Investigations. He is also a Certified PR-24 instructor. Bob retired from the Hornell Police Department in 2015 and started with the Canisteo Police Department as a part time patrolman in April 2015. He has also been a football coach for Alfred University for the last 28 years.

Started working for the Canisteo Police Department in April of 2017. Mills graduated from the Canisteo-Greenwood High School in 2011. Mills attended GST BOCES for the Criminal Justice Program and has always have wanted to be a police office. In March of 2016 Mills started the Rural Police Training Academy in Batavia, NY. During this time Mills completed the first responder course, Narcotics Identification training, First Aid and CPR training, AED training, Taser training, OC Spray training and other general topic trainings. Mills gathered perfect attendance throughout this academy and graduating from phase I. In April of 2017 Mills was accepted to the Southern Tier Law Enforcement Academy in Corning, NY where he is completing his hours and training for phase II of the Basic Law Enforcement Academy. Patrolman SRO Started working for Canisteo Police Department in July 2018 Born and raised in Hornell, N.Y. Kate graduated from Hornell High School in 1992 In 1994 she received an Associates degree from Alfred State College in Liberal Arts-Socail Sciences. She then attended Keuka College Studying Criminal Justice. K. graduated from the Southern Tier Law Enforcement Academy in June 1996. She worked for the Andover Police Department before being hired full time in September of 1998. Kate was the first female police officer to work for the City of Hornell. K. retired in June 2018 after 20 years of service for the Hornell Police Department. Kate was hired by the Village of Canisteo in July 2018 and is the School Recourse Office for the Canisteo-Greenwood Elementary School. Patrolman and SRO J. started working for the Canisteo Police Depatment in January 2019. He was born and raised in Hornell, and graduated from Hornell High School in in 1994. He attended Monroe Community College in the fall of 1994 and transferred to Corning Community college in January 1995. In January 1998 J. attended the Southern Tier Law Enforcement Academy and Graduated in July 1998. J. worked part time for the Steuben County Sheriffs Department in 1998 until he was hired by the Hornell Police Department in October 1998 as a full time Patrolman. J. worked 20 years for the Hornell Police Department and Retired in January 2019. J. was hired in January 2019 by the Canisteo Police department as a full time Recourse Officer for the Canisteo Greenwood High School. He is certified in Emergency Planning, Emergency Vehicle Operation, Domestic Violence prevention, Crime Prevention Expertise, defensive tactics, taser, OC Spray, opioid overdose & intranasal naloxone, ALEERT 1 & 2 and other police topics.

Dex is a Belgian Malinois imported from Holland. He joined the Canisteo Village Police Department in June 2018. Dex is trained in narcotics detection, tracking, and handler protection. Dex loves patrolling the streets of Canisteo and keeping our residents safe.
